Over 120 years ago, the Point Arena Schools began serving students, and have been providing quality education to local families for multiple generations. Many current students’ parents, grandparents and great- grandparents went to Arena Union Elementary and Point Arena High School. The record boards in the gymnasium list names of current staff members who excelled athletically on PAHS teams in the past. Community members constantly share stories with me about their time in Point Arena Schools. Some of our students have the same teachers their parents had. There is a rich history, and I have enjoyed becoming acquainted with it.
The district’s mission is for staff, students, parents and community to work as partners to ensure that all students master standards and become:
Respectful of self and others
Independent life-long learners
Critical thinkers and problem solvers
Responsible, contributing members of society
These are admirable and worthy goals, and we pursue them with passion, tenacity and persistence. Our desire for our students is that they leave us ready for any and all challenges life might present beyond high school. Academic rigor is important, as are high expectations for student behavior and student health and safety.
The Board of Trustees and all staff are committed to regularly reflecting on student performance results and other measurable data in an effort to continuously improve.
Our dedicated staff fully grasps the importance of what they do, and daily embraces the challenge of providing the best learning experience possible for our students.
It is an honor to be part of the Point Arena team of educators, parents, support staff and community members. We’re on the right track, and I am excited about the future with its endless possibilities and potential for excellence in all aspects of the Point Arena Schools educational experience. We are writing history for our students, and my hope is this will be one of the best chapters ever in the ongoing story of Point Arena Schools.
With Pirate Pride,
Superintendent Point Arena Schools
Lighting the Way for all students.
