January Student of the Month Leroy Gustafson

Leroy Gustafson earns Student of the Month honors

Based on class ranking, Leroy Gustafson, PAHS senior, earned Student of the Month honors for January.

Shawn McMahon, one of Gustafson’s teachers, knows him well. For the last year and a half, Gustafson has attended McMahon’s classes, first as a student in his AP US History class and, this school year, in his Government and Economics class.

McMahon said of Gustafson: “Leroy is a perfect representation of the best characteristics of our community: he excels in academics, school leadership, and school-sponsored extracurricular activities, as well as in unstructured hobbies such as surfing. He pursues these interests and activities all while working part-time, which is quite an accomplishment.

“He regularly contributes well-thought out ideas and opinions to classroom discussions while remaining open to evaluating new perspectives. The South Coast should be proud of helping Leroy in achieving his many accomplishments, and I look forward to his future contributions to the community after he receives his college degree.”

Leroy plans to study marine science in college this Fall. “The ocean is my passion. We’re at a tipping point because the ocean is at a crucial spot in its evolution. We need people to help out.”

Based on a class ranking of 4.29 GPA, PAHS student Loden H. earned student of the month for the month of December.  According to his academic counsellor Donna Miller, Loden is “always willing to help, intellectually curious, and headed to college. Loden is a scholar/athlete and an unassuming role model.”

Congratulations Loden!
