We are pleased to inform you that Arena Elementary School will continue to participate in the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) for the 2023-2024 School Year.

Schools that participate in the CEP are able to provide healthy breakfasts and lunches each day at no charge for all students enrolled in that CEP school during the 2023-2024 School Year.

Although there are no income eligibility guidelines to receive free meals we are still required to collect your household income information and ask you to complete the Alternative Income Form on page 2 as required by the CEP program.

If we can be of any further assistance, please contact us at 707-882-2131, ext. 202 or e-mail bmaul@auesfamily.org.

Point Arena Schools Meals Meets Nutrition Standards

Our Schools serve school meals that meet tough federal nutrition standards, ensuring that meals are healthy, well-balanced and provide students all the nutrition they need to succeed at school.

School meals offer students milk, fruits and vegetables, proteins and grains, and they must meet strict limits for saturated fat and portion size. Starting this fall, school lunches will meet additional standards requiring:

  • Age-appropriate calorie limits
  • Larger servings of vegetables and fruits (students must take at least one serving of produce)
  • A wider variety of vegetables, including dark green and red/orange vegetables and legumes
  • Fat-free or 1% milk (flavored milk must be fat-free)
  • More whole grains
  • And less sodium

“We’re always working to offer Point Arena students healthier and tastier choices,” said Denise Souza, Food Service Manager. In addition to meeting new nutrition standards, we’re also maintaining our commitment to serving “homemade/slow cooked” meals, with Jaime Oliver’s “School Food Campaign” as our guide and inspiration. School meals are a great value and a huge convenience for busy families.
